Application: Doctor Divergence
A. General Information
Declaration: I, player of the character named below and any alts that may subsequently join the House of Thorns, Hereby certify that I am over the age of 18
Character Name: Frank Wheeler D.Phil, aka Doctor Divergence
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 48
B. Your Application:
1. Where did you hear about the House of Thorns?
Via the CORP website.
2. Why do you wish to join us?
In truth, the quality of names that I'd seen that had expressed interest in the thread on the CORP forums originally piqued my interest. No, I'm not currying favor - The question was asked, and this is my truthful answer. That's not necessarily why I wish to join, of course - That's just what caught my eye.
I think, if handled well, edgy/mature orientated RP can provide a backdrop and environment that 'vanilla' RP cannot. For me, MRP isn't necessarily about taking the gloves off and swearing all the time. It isn't necessarily about talking without regard to others and saying "Well, we're all adults, grow up and deal with it".
For me, MRP can foster an environment where stories can be told that focus on darker, more taboo topics. Topics that you wouldn't normally find in standard guild RP. Sure, fetish and sex-related themes are amongst those topics, but those aren't the only things that often you can't touch on during vanilla RP.
3. In what ways do you see yourself contributing to the House of Thorns and helping the guild become a Success?
Well, I think that depends on how you define 'success' .. Personally, i think for a Roleplaying guild/supergroup success is defined more by the interaction of it's members, the quality of the stories they produce and (and this is probably the most important) the fun that they have writing and participating in those stories.
I see Doctor Divergence as more of a facilitator when it comes to RP plots and stories - As a researcher and academic, he's slightly removed from the 'action', and personally I enjoy playing the 'support' role in that kind of way.
Situations I can see him helping in would be if a story has begin to stall, he can be used as a go-to guy for characters that have dilemmas and/or issues that they need to work out. His doctorate was in philosophy not psychology, but he is a social scientist and has studied people extensively.
I'm a self-confessed altoholic, and so I wouldn't want to be 'center stage' for stories, as I can't guarantee a set number of hours per week on him at all. And.. while I'm talking about that, I hope that my altoholicism won't be an issue. If it is, I completely understand.
4. In Playing Champions Online, what do you see as your priorty?
I play to have fun, put very simply. That fun, for me, comes in many different forms. Some of you may have read my posts on the official CO forums and from those it can be inferred that when it comes to fun, I'm pretty easy to please.
I don't have a problem with CO's replayability. I enjoy re-doing missions I've done before. I enjoying helping others do their missions. I always did, even before Cryptic put shared mission exp in.
As a roleplayer, I enjoy interaction and roleplay. I'm generally a co-operative roleplayer, in the same way that I'm a cooperative gamer. I don't PvP at all, and I don't get involved in antagonistic RP very often. That said, I think good dramatic stories can be generated without every disagreement degenerating into PvP (whether emoted or actually /duel'd IG).
5. What can you say about your character, in short? Why would your character fit the House of Thorns?
Dr. Frank Wheeler is a sociologist and social studies researcher at MCU (Millennium City University) His primary focus of research, of late, has been the effect of emergent superpowers on various different types of people, be they blue collar workers, office workers, country music fans, or whatever.
Obviously, one of society's sub-cultures is alternative lifestylers, and Dr. Wheeler had just begun to sketch out his research plan when he himself developed latent kinetic energy/telekinesis/telepathic powers (I haven't fully figured this out yet, but it's something to do with one of his previous test subjects)
It's eminently possible for an open-minded enough researcher to use himself as a test subject, of course, but the emergence of his own powers does not obviate any research plans he was going to do.
So he 'dons the cape', as it were, takes the name Doctor Divergence and sets out to both fight crime and continue his research, a subject that has now become even closer to his heart.
edit: Age was changed from 28 to 48. With the character this new, I don't think it matters, but if it's a problem, let me know and I'll change it back.

I can vouch for Raph here as a Good Player.
Also was helping him with some Lore info for his character.
